Application Modules

Note: We strongly recommend reading this page on a tablet, laptop, or desktop (any device with a wider screen).

Here is where we'll go over the different application modules used by each English CEGEP, as well as walk through the Fall Session application process for regular Quebec students in high school (simply put: adolescents in secondary 5 in a Quebec high school).

When you start an application, you'll see that you can apply as either a Quebec student, a Canadian (out-of-province) student, or an international student. The three categories are defined by where you're studying when you apply to CEGEP, as follows:

  • Quebec student: applicants from/studying in a Quebec institution (usually a Quebec high school)
  • Canadian (out-of-province) student: applicants from/studying in a Canadian institution outside of Quebec
  • International student: pplicants from/studying in an international institution, outside of Canada
  • There may also be an option for Transfer Students, which is for students already studying at a Quebec CEGEP wishing to transfer to another college.

For international students already in Quebec (even if you don't have Canadian citizenship or permanent residence): as long as you are studying in Quebec when you apply, you apply as a Quebec student. "Quebec student" and "Quebec resident" are defined separately at the CEGEP level, so while you may not qualify as the latter (resident), you are considered a Quebec student if you study in a Quebec high school. (Do NOT apply as an international student!)

Some systems use different categories, but not to worry, those will be explained in the sections pertaining to each individual system.

It's also important to know that if you are not an adult in Continuing Education, you will be applying to what's called the day division for a day program to study full-time in a DEC (DCS) program. A few systems will categorize Day Division students as regular applicants.

When applying, you will need:

  • Your permanent code (a 12-character code found on your report cards and Achievement Records). It is NOT your health insurance number!
  • A credit card (to pay application fees)
  • Your mailing address
  • Your contact information (email, phone number...)
  • Name of your school board and school
  • You'll likely need your birth certificate, and if applicable, immigration documents
  • You may need, depending on your school, your secondary 5 report card

After applying, always remember to:

  • Print a copy/take a screenshot of your completed application (print out the transmission receipt, if available)
  • Take note of and write down your reference number (your "application number")
  • If you're sending documents by email or mail, indicate your reference number!
  • Information on topics such as checking your application status and confirming your acceptance will be covered in After applying.

Looking for some tips on choosing a CEGEP and/or program? Take a look at Choosing a CEGEP and Program.

This walkthrough is specifically intended for Quebec high school students applying to the Day Division fall session.

The SRAM (Service régional d'admission du Montréal métropolitain) application module is used to apply to SRAM-affiliated CEGEPs. For English CEGEPs, this includes Vanier College, John Abbott College, Champlain College Lennoxville, and Heritage College.

When applying through SRAM, there are 3 rounds of applications. You get the choice of one CEGEP and one program at that chosen CEGEP per round.

If you are accepted into the program in the first round, you do not get to apply for round 2 or 3. Once you're admitted into a program, you cannot apply for future rounds.

  • $30 application fee, paid once (you do not need to pay this fee for each round)
  • Round 1 deadline: March 1, 11:59 pm
  • If applying to rounds 2 or 3, consult the Table of Available Programs (also called Table of Available Places): https://admission.sram.qc.ca/regulier/places-disponibles/par-programme
  • Round 2 deadline: TBA (usually April)
  • Round 3 deadline: TBA (usually May)

You can apply through SRAM at this link: https://admission.sram.qc.ca/

1. SRAM will first present you with the menu below (you can switch from English to French, depending on your preference). Notice that in the bottom right corner, next to "Contact the cégeps", you can choose to fill out a Mock application (= simulate an application).

SRAM admission main menu

2. Click on "Apply for admission" at the very left. You'll be taken to this menu:

SRAM admission applicant menu

3. Select "Regular applicant" and create a new account (or login if you've already made one). Read the guidelines displayed to you ("Important guidelines") and once you're ready, proceed to step 2, "Choice of college and program".

Side menu including options Important guidelines, Choice of college and program, identity, academic background, verify your information, payment of application fees

4. Choose a college, then select a program. A third menu may pop up, asking you to choose a "Particularity" or a "Specialization"—you may wish to consult the CEGEP's viewbook for help. If you are applying to round 2 or 3, click on "View available programs" before making your choice.

SRAM step 2, with Vanier College selected as an example and an empty input box for the program choice

Depending on your choices, specifications about the program pertaining to availability, precisions, and prerequisites may appear. Read the specifications carefully, especially if there are prerequisites, to verify that you qualify for admissions. Make sure to check the boxes signalling that you've read the precisions, and/or that you have or will have all the prerequisites. (You won't be able to proceed otherwise.)

Vanier College was simply selected as an example. You are free to choose whichever CEGEP to which you wish to apply (Vanier, John Abbott, Heritage, or Champlain Lennoxville).

5. Continue to step 3, "Identity". Select your birthplace (In Quebec, Elsewhere in Canada, or Outside Canada) under "Legal status in Canada". Then, if applicable (In Quebec/Elsewhere in Canada), select "Canadian" if you are a Canadian citizen, or select "Native" if you are First Nations.

  • If you select "Elsewhere in Canada", specify your province of birth and your city of birth in the two menus that should pop up. Under "Legal Status", select "Canadian" if you are a Canadian citizen, or select "Native" if you are First Nations.
  • If you select "Outside Canada", specify your country of birth and your city of birth in the two menus that should pop up. Select the corresponding legal status from "Canadian", "Permanent resident" (PR), "Refugee", or "Temporary resident" (study permit, work permit, etc.).
    • If you select "Permit to be obtained" (you do not have a temporary visa/permit granting you legal status in Canada), then you do not qualify as a regular applicant in SRAM's system. However, if this is the case for you, you can instead return to Step 3 on this page and select "International applicant".

(step 5 continued) Press "Continue" on "Personal information" and fill out your information (first name, last name, date of birth, gender, language spoken at home, native language, North-American phone number, permanent code).

Once you've completed that part of the form, click "Continue" on "Parents" and fill out your parents' information (first and last name of your parents).

Next, click "Continue" on "Contact information". You can search for your address or enter it manually.

SRAM contact information form for manually inputting address

Finally, press "Continue" to "Reminders and notifications". Depending on your preferences, you can ask to be notified by text, email, or simply not be notified at all if your application is incomplete. Once you've filled out this last section of the "Identity" form, click "Continue" in the bottom right corner of the webpage.

6. You should now be at step 4 on your SRAM application, "Academic background". Reminder that this application guide is for day division Quebec high school students (adolescents studying full-time in a Quebec high school).

Academic background in Quebec form, if enrolled in youth sector, in adult education centre secondary school, in CEGEP
  • Select "Yes" for "...secondary school, youth sector?"
  • Select "No" for "...secondary school in an adult education centre?" (this is asking if you are enrolled in Continuing Education)
  • Select "No" for "...college (cégep)?" (this is asking if you are a transfer student who's already begun studies in CEGEP)

A section titled "Secondary school, youth sector" will appear beneath the form. Select or type the name of your school as instructed.

7. Continue to step 5, "Verify your information". Carefully look over the choices and information recorded by SRAM from the previous 3 steps ("Choice of college and program", "Identity", "Academic background"). Click "Update" next to a section if you'd like to modify or correct something there (this will take you back to that step of the application).

SRAM verify your information form

Once you are certain that everything is correct, read the terms and conditions (text in the black box: "I declare that the information provided in this application is accurate. I authorize…"). Lastly, click "Create an application".

8. A modal (pop-up) should appear, stating that your application for admission has been sent to SRAM. You can access your file, as indicated in the notification, by clicking on the "Status of my application" tab. Click "OK" when you're ready to dismiss the pop-up.

Side menu with options to check application file status, pay application fees, upload documents, and more

9. Check to see if you need to upload any documents. You can upload them directly to your file by clicking on the "Upload documents" tab and following the instructions that appear. SRAM accepts PDF or JPEG (JPG) file formats with a maximum file size of 3 MB.

Here is a checklist of documents for Quebec day division high school students:

  • If you were born outside of Quebec: birth certificate
  • If your school does not have an agreement with SRAM to transmit your grades: secondary V report card, possibly additional transcripts
  • If your program so requires (check prerequisites/requirements!), a letter of intent
  • If SRAM is missing a document from you, you should see, in your "Status of my application" tab, a box indicating a missing document and asking you to upload it. For example, it may say "Secondary V School Report Card - mandatory" and indicate that it was "Not received".

10. Now, you'll want to pay the application fees. Select the "Pay application fees" tab (below the "Status of my application" tab) and click "Pay now" to complete your mandatory and non-refundable payment of the $30 application fee. SRAM will redirect you to the Moneris online payment platform, where you'll fill out your information and complete the transaction.

Reminder: print out your SRAM transmission receipt! It's important to have proof of your completed application, and to take note of your reference/application number.

Other tabs

  • Once you've completed your application, if the deadline hasn't yet passed, you can modify your choice of college and program in the "Change my choice" tab. Avoid making late changes!
  • If you weren't admitted in round 1 or 2, you can click on the "Participate in another round" tab once admissions to round 2 or 3 have opened.
  • The "Modify my contact information" tab allows you to update your email address, mailing address, phone number(s), and reminders and notifications selection.
  • The "Important dates" tab lists important dates including deadlines, when admissions open for each round, and when admission answers will be available. You may also add certain dates to an online calendar (Outlook, Google Calendar, etc.).

And that's it! You've applied through SRAM's application module!

Next, you can go to Dawson Application Centre, Marianopolis College (Omnivox), or Champlain Regional College (Omnivox) to see how to apply to more CEGEPs. Or if you're unsure about something, see below.

Finished Applying?

Have you submitted all of your CEGEP applications? Well, first of all, congratulations—though you're not quite done yet. CEGEPs tend to start responding around mid-March/beginning of April, though this varies with each college, and you'll want to check your application status (check for updates). We'll go over this and more on the next page, After Applying.

This page was created in September 2021 (updated February 2022).
